The ceramics of Chiusa
Founded in 1833 upon initiative of the architect Michele Giordana from Cuneo, the white majolica factory transforms Chiusa within some years in an important pole for ceramic processing, being able above all to count on the traditional ability of its inhabitants, already known in France for their famous and resistant tableware from Chiusa. The factory was sold in 1836 to Giuseppe Barberis who in 1866 sold it to the Gabutti brothers. At least the factory becomes part of the S.A. Piedmont Ceramics in 1927.
Hand decorated with sponge buffers, moulded and masked, the handmade articles from Chiusa are merchandized in Italy and abroad. The factory closes in 1984 thus finishing a very long craftworks and artistic tradition, which has exported the name of Chiusa over the regional borders.
