Ecomuseum Certosino

An Ecomuseum is in preparation phase which goes over the most important stages of the Carthusian presence in the Pesio valley through an ethnographic and religious journey that document the history of the settlings, the attention to the environment and the relationship among the religious and the local farmer world. The ecomuseum will also be a centre of specific activities linked to the spiritual circle and the Carthusian religiousness, to the typical products (officinal herbs, cheese, wood craftworks), to the naturalistic (local flora and fauna) and anthropological world (local dialect, emigration, construction systems and mountain architecture).

The central part of the ecomuseum will be the antique correria, acquired by the Natural Park since some years, which started a long restoration process. The correria was the first building in the Valley constructed by the Carthusian monks: it was situated on the left orographic bank of the stream Pesio and became, after the construction of the Great Carthusian monastery, the house of the lay brothers, the lay members of the monastery.  The antique thirteenth-century church of the correria, at the moment under restoration, will become the first welcome and spreading point of the ecomuseum, which introduces the relationship between the territory and the Carthusian through films and information material.
