Nature Park of Marguareis
The Park was developed around the Marguareis Massif, in the centre of the Ligurian Alps and includes two valleys: the Pesio Valley and a part of the Upper Tanaro Valley. Its particular position with a climate that feels the marine influences coming from the near Mediterranean, made it famous for the variety in flora. In fact it preserves a quarter of the vegetal species present in Italy. Varied and rich the presence of the fauna: chamois, eagles, deer, roe deer and fork cocks populate the territory. The wolf has reappeared on these mountains since some years.
Another important characteristic of the area is the karstic phenomenon, localised mainly in the Marguareis - Mongioie Massif. It represents a real sanctuary for the speleological lovers and researchers with more than 150 km underground caves development, where many of them are still unexplored.
