The park territory

The area of the park extends for about 6770 hectares on two sides of the Marguareis Mountain (2651 m.), the highest top of the Ligurian Alps. The morphological tracts of this mountain group are unique due to their calcareous structure thus favouring the formation of big karstic basins, of caves (about 700) and overhanging rock-faces, which give the sides a dolomitic appearance.

The protected territory includes two Valleys: the Pesio Valley and a part of the upper Tanaro valley, natural bridge between Piedmont and the nearby provinces of Imperia and Savona. The Special Nature Reserve of Crava - Morozza, the Nature Source Reserve of Belbo, the Nature Reserve Augusta Bagiennorum and the Reserve of Ciciu del Villar are part of the park.
