Silver fir woods
Symbol tree of the Pesio Valley with a height till forty metres and a diameter that in some cases can reach two meters owes its presence to the Carthusian monks, who always cured and kept these woods intact without replacing them with other more advantageous ones like the chestnut tree or the beech tree, thus allowing the conservation. This species is fostered by weather conditions like abundant rains, environmental and soil humidity, the absence of winds and a limited daily and seasonal temperature range. Nowadays the wood is particularly luxuriant and represents with its underwood one of the richest animal environments in the Park.
