Carnino

The small village  in the High Tanaro Valley makes administratively part of the Briga Alta municipality and is constituted of Carnino Inferiore and Carnino Superiore. The built-up area of Carnino is a particular  example of  mountain architecture and keeps an antique history: in fact the first evidence of stable dwellings date back to the X century. We can still see the antique quadrangular stony houses, generally with more floors. The rye straw roof is the most characteristic part of the dwelling: the tympanum exceed the covering forming two stony stringcourses, useful to create an edge to the straw and to allow the access to the roof, establishing the typical structure of the contained roof. In the pastures remaining of vastere, the stony fences for the animals and the little houses, small constructions used as shelter for the shepherds during the pasture or for the conservation of the cheese produced in the mountain pasture, testify of a pastoral and rustic past.

The Park has recently purchased and restructured an antique house inside the small village.
