The flora
A rich and luxuriant nature characterizes the territory with vast woods of silver firs, beech-trees, noble broad-leaved trees, chestnut trees and on the southern side Scots pines and uncinates.
The Park guards an immense floristic patrimony from forest trees to rare and endemic herbaceous plants, which establish a heterogeneous panorama with almost 1.500 registered species. The protected area guards alone more than a fourth of the vegetal species present in Italy, a unique situation due to the coexistence of a typical Alpine flora with the Mediterranean one. In fact this area represents the meeting point among different climatic districts and constituted in the past the crossroads of the migratory flows of species coming from different areas. The particular geographical position linked with the calcareous rocky conformation established the richness and variety in vegetation, which we nowadays admire and study, a patrimony which makes this territory the most vegetal biodiversity area of the entire Alpine arc.
