The birds
The Oasis is an IBA area (Important Bird Areas) since 1989 and since a few years it has been established by the European Community, Community Site of Importance for the habitat and Special Protection Area for the birds. It hosts threatened species and represents a fundamental area for the transit, the migration, the hibernating and the nest-building of the bird population.
The visitor can observe a lot of species in any season. Among them you can see the kingfisher, the dipper, the yellow wagtail and during the nest-building the common sandpiper. The underwood is rich of hawthorn, spindle-tree, hazel, wayfaring tree, alder buckthorn, bird cherry and black elder. In the parts where the wood could develop itself, there are present the Alpine tree creeper, the pied red woodpecker, the nuthatch and the green woodpecker. Furthermore it is possible to observe the ash-grey heron, the little egret, the night heron, the red heron, the pied white heron and during the winter period many cormorants. There are also a lot of surface or depth duck specimen and less common species like the fish hawk, the royal and brown kite, the shelduck and the black stork.
