The Regia Fabbrica
It was instituted by the Savoy state in 1759 and managed half by the State and for the other half by outer institutes. The first one was Francesco Saroldi, sole private manager till 1810. Then he shared with Giuseppe Avena, who some years later became sole director of the company, by now one of the most famous and qualitative important glassworks in Europe. The factory produced many pieces, like sheets for windows, vases, glasses, bottles, objects of blown glass and crystal. The products were sold in Turin in the main store in the Square Vittorio. It was awarded at the Exhibition in Paris in 1806 with the silver medal for the excellent quality of its crystals. The Regia Fabbrica has made of Chiusa Pesio an international centre of importance, able to attract the best skilled operators. Many of the workers were Bohemian, a region with the highest glasswork tradition and other were French and Venetian people.
